I don't think differently of iWork v. LibreOffice. Neither is standard
in the broad marketplace so neither is appropriate for business use.

It would be beneficial for the developers of LibreOffice to do what
Microsoft did when they started Vista and simply rewrite much of what
already exists. Vista might have been a mess, but 7 ended up being
perfect to the point that people are very reluctant to move away from
it. There's no reason for LibreOffice's developers to keep releasing new
versions so they can just take what they have, freeze it for a while all
the while optimizing the code to create a product which loads faster and
is more consistent with the rest. People will end up having to wait
longer for a new version but who cares? It's not like they're getting
paid for it anyway.

I actually didn't mind Vista much myself. The beta was awful but the
final version worked well enough. It never felt solid, but it didn't
crash on me or prevent me from doing anything that I would have wanted
to do with a computer. Some of what it offered was a little too
ambitious (animated desktop wallpaper for one) but it was otherwise a
decent operating system.

Ha hah. Really desperate twist in the wind there! By that
logic they have
even less need for Linux. A Chrome netbook is all they need
(and yes, I
know Chrome is based on Linux - but then a Chrome netbook is not
exactly what one really wants in a personal computer unless
their world
is constrained to browsing, web mail and lightweight web apps).

>>>

I'm not a troll. What I wrote is sound (if my opinion, I'm certainly
not alone in it).

It's also why Linux has failed to garner more than a few % of the
desktop market (if that) while OS X has continuously (if slowly) taken
on more and more share.

A part of that is halo effect. After being exposed to the
iPod/iPhone/iPad a lot of people have bought their first Macs.

Per one "web tracker" (that looks at browser activity, not "OS"
activity) (Aug.2015).

Windows:	85.92%
OS X: 8.18%
Linux:	1.80%

So while there may be a lot more Linux machines out there, where
"desktop" use is concerned, Linux isn't even 1 out of 50 users.

A few years ago (5 maybe), Linux had better numbers and OS X had worse
- though OS X was always ahead.

It must be frustrating not being able to install Linux, chrisv however

Many things aren't implemented as platform specific binaries anymore
and haven't been for a long time. You could consider this the first wave
of "cloud computing". Even the "almighty word processor" is being redone
as a web application.

You can tell when someone is a loser troll when they fixate on nonsense
like msoffice. It doesn't matter what credentials they claim to have.

While that is true, the current implementations are sorely lacking in
features compared to the desktop versions. Whether they will ever reach
parity is not certain at this point. And assuming they could bring them
to parity, I doubt it would be free as they are today.

Well you aren't all the way off the charts this time. But the rant was

Absolutely. Now if it could only be adopted to immediately sniff out
"Snit's" new socks and delete his worthless BS from COLA
automatically ...

I believe that the most notable example cumstainv can use is the fact
that Microsoft Office is now available for free at office.com and that
it can be used from within any operating system on the planet. The
problem, however, is that the free versions of Word, Powerpoint and
Excel are extremely stripped-down and aren't real alternatives to
installing the office suite on your computer.

But since Bob's "linuxprofessionals.com" domain is for sale, one
of the things it apparently isn't any good at has been identified.

And these reasons are what, specifically?

While the sentiment has its merits, the execution was merely YA troll attempt.
