Linux is the best OS or amongst the best OS's for a lot of things.

Databases, servers, many embedded systems, ... a long list of 
applications where Linux does great and is the number one choice for 
good reason.  It's the OS of almost every TOP500 supercomputer running 
today inlcuding all of the top 10.

But the one area where it is an abject useless stinkpile of garbage is 
office or home desktop environments. It's not just the plethora of 
competing horribly ugly Linux desktop environments but the utter lack 
of support from mainstream software publishers to provide their high 
quality wares to a tiny sliver of the market.

I utterly hate Windows and the company that shall not be named that 
publishes that monstrosity and its companion apps. But Windows is 
superior to Linux as a desktop environment. Ouch! That pains me.

Linux is so rotten as a desktop environment that people would rather 
face the legal risks of installing bootleg versions of Windows than 
legally installing free Linux distros!

OS X is obviously the superior *nix where desktop is concerned. It 
exudes competent design in every detail - and it is so well designed 
for ordinary users that the most computer averse grandmother from 
Numbnuts, Arkansas can use it, configure it, update it, manage it and 
even correct issues that occur.  I, a Linux professional programmer, 
administrator and entrepreneur use OS X even to develop for Linux.  
It's that simple fanbois.  Linux desktop is utter tripe in all its 
myriad forms.  Embarrasing actually.  Every time I'm forced by 
circustance to load a Linux desktop I find the entire experience 
cringeworthy.

Even with with Apple on its knees in the late 90's and early 2000's, 
the Linux "movement" could not take on the expensive Windows near 
monopoly with a free *nix and desktop environment.  Even with Apple's 
expensive computers and often expensive companion software Linux 
desktop could not take over a market despite being given away for free 
and usable on the cheapest, skankiest hardware out there.

Linux fanbois keep on embarrassing Linux professionals with the 
cesspool nonsense notion that Linux is a viable desktop alternative to 
Windows.

It hasn't. It isn't. It won't be. Get over it Fanbois and please stop 
embarrassing the rest of us.
