Shouldn't happen, the driver should be able to cope. When you've got this mob to clean up the USB drivers I'll send you a list of all the USB drivers that fail miserably and kill the Linux kernel. You can work on getting them to work better with hardware failures. 'tis not a Windows issue. 'tis a crap software issue.
