You should check out the Plan9 stuff at http://cat-v.org/ ... they forked it quite a while ago, and just released a new version in January.

VMS is an interesting system. I once administered a couple of DEC Alpha systems that ran OpenVMS 6.1... this was toward the end of the 20th. Anyway, it felt really "old" to me... powerful, but arcane.

Gordon, the Go Gopher (for the Google Go language) is from the same artist, Renee' French. She's married to Rob Pike, a principal behind both projects.
