British doctors are calling on the government to let patients know of their right 
to opt out of the planned national data base.

NHS England plans to share data from GP medical records with other health services, 
researchers and even private companies.

Patients can opt out of the controversial "care.data" scheme, but 45 per cent are 
unaware of the plan, according to a poll by ICM Research for BBC Radio 4�s PM programme.

The British Medical Associations GPs committee chairman Chaand Nagpaul demanded 
the government inform patients and "produce evidence this has been achieved prior to uploads taking place".
