If that's true, why isn't 'arithmetics' shown, labelled as a synonym or 
alternative spelling, on the page. Look up 'maneuver' and 'manoeuvre' and 
you'll find references to both spellings in the Merriam-Webster online 
because both are correct ways of spelling the same word.

Try the same for 'arithmetic' and 'arithmetics' and both will arrive at 
the same page. Maybe there's a clue there?
