As has been pointed-out elsewhere, Windows 8.1 has been out for a while.

What hasn't been mentioned though is that it is a bona fide P.O.S.

Well we know MS has been trying to "kill" Java ever since they tried to take 
ownership of it, produce a Windows-specific version that was in complete 
conflict with the entire Java WORA principle and Sun successfully sued them.

But Java lives on and will possibly out-live MS itself eventually.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with JavaFX per se and JNLP has been dead or 
dying for years.  Going forward I do not expect JNLP to have any place 
except for intranets and legacy systems.

MS have lost most of their relevance and the fact/rumour that their latest 
OS can support Android apps is incredibly insignificant.  The Windows OS is 
one of the least important on the landscape at the moment and will continue 
to decline.

Well this certainly was their M.O. but now it's themselves who are a risk of 
being extinguished by their own stupid decisions and poor technology.  For 
instance, why didn't anyone stand up in the meeting where some genius 
decided that every device (phone, tablet, desktop, server, workstation) had 
to have exactly that *same* UI???
