When I click the Launch links in Chrome it downloads a jnlp, and I'm sure I haven't changed a setting for that. Chrome shows me my downloaded files at the bottom of the browser, so I can click it there to launch, or I can browse Windows Explorer to my downloads folder and launch from there. Regardless, the web start is not actually running in the browser, and there should still be a security prompt for unknown publishers. > >> Java Web Start never became a success. > >> > > How so? reference? How can you say companies don't use web start just because you haven't heard about it? It's a framework, not a language. There are plenty of questions and job ads for Java. My JNLP requires very little maintenance. All it does is tell the client where my web server is, so they can download the current jars to run the Java app, and they can connect to another JVM on that server using sockets. You probably won't see many questions about gas pedals on a car forum, that doesn't mean no one uses them. > >> And I think that what most people think about when they hear Java > >> Web Start is the case where JNLP and Java Web Start is used to run > >> applets. > >> > >> But that is really only a very special case. > >> > >> And even though I have not seen it described anywhere then I would > >> expect this possibility to be dropped together with classic applet > >> support. > > > > reference? I've never heard of it being used for that, much less only used for that.
