For fooling around on your desktop, gforth is pretty good.  For embedded
development, it seems to me that the commercial implementations (Forth
Inc and MPE Forth) have much better tooling (cross development so you
can use full featured Forth on a tiny micro, etc) than the free stuff
that's currently out there.
