It isn't a concern of an editor, it's a use for an editor.  Copying 
files back and forth over a serial connection is a very inefficient way 
of working compared to using a simple editor locally.

A console display is exactly what a simple editor such as vi uses.  A 
GUI layer is a whole extra level of complexity many systems neither have 
nor need.
