Yes.  But, I also don't usually follow elections that closely.

I usually just ignore all of it, then vote.  However, this election is
rather interesting as the party outsiders ran under each party, not as
independents.  Independents "never" win.  The outsiders have scared
the core of each party.  Socialist Sanders basically halted Democrat
Clinton's progress.  It was revealed that the DNC so feared Sanders
recent gains that the DNC actually plotted in secret to stop Sanders ...
Trump is more fringe Republican than core, and was a Democrat for many
years, but his core supporters are still part of the Republican party.
Technically, he might be somewhat of a Libertarian as he has beliefs
from both parties. Democrats decry him as a fascist among other
insults.  By demographics, voting is usually split fairly evenly
between both parties, except for black votes.  The vast majority of
African Americans vote Democrat.  Women tend to vote slightly more
Democrat and men slightly more Republican.  Whites, Hispanics, Asians
are all fairly evenly split.

The politicians do that too, but it is pushed further by the
"unbiased" liberal media.  For many decades there wasn't any
conservative news shows in the U.S.  Now, there is FOX cable news
channel, and some conservative radio talk shows.  The vast majority of
both TV/cable/satellite channels and radio stations are liberal.  Their
main market is urban (liberal), followed by suburban.  Then, they expand
into rural areas (conservative).  The primary markets for the radio
talk shows are rural and strongly Christian.  All of the comedy TV
shows use liberal humor.  They're popular amongst youth and spread
liberal views.  So, yes, there is a strong bias among media companies
towards the left.  TV shows and movies are much the same.  Hollywood is
in California which is a very liberal state as compared to the rest of
the nation.  Even other liberal urban areas are far more conservative
than California.  The San Francisco CEOs would probably fit well into
the left of the E.U. or U.K. political spectrum.  So,they're a
slightly radical far left here compared to the rest of the country.
That's why they're just screaming bloody murder about Trump.  You'd
think the sky was falling.

With Brexit, there is no reason why the U.K. can't add more states to
it's union.  If you can get a neighbor in Europe to join you, that would
be a great wedge into the E.U., at least symbolically, perhaps
economically too.  You never know what might happen. Someday, the U.K.
might replace the E.U.  Long-term it's possible the tables might turn.

Um, we had the American Revolution which supposedly was to eliminate
British oppression.  Yes, I haven't personally experienced oppression
(AFAIK), but the lore is enshrined in our history here and our
Constitution, e.g., right to bear arms after the British banned the
importation of gunpowder and firearms, then attempted to confiscate the
gunpowder and firearms by force.  So, there is a tiny pinch of humorous
irony from my perspective ...  ;-)
