Martin Caidin pointed out in his book on the Eastern front, The Tigers are Burning, that only a Tiger could tow a Tiger. So one of the recovery vehicles couldn't do it. -- JimP.

It wouldn't be good for morale to have the new crew finding body parts in their new ride.

He was trained by the Navy and worked as a radio telegraph operator on a supply ship. Those ships were certainly targets, as they provisioned all the other fighting ships. "They" say that captains study tactics, colonels study strategy, but generals study logistics. -- numerist at aquaporin4 dot com

This caused a hiccup in certain professions/trades after the war, as the hiatus in training meant that German microscopes were never again made as well. This worked through entire socities in management, etc. By WWII, things had changed and gifted people were reserved for their special expertise. This meant, of course, that you would have to make a good case for your field. There was a German artillary specialist that was sent to study the coastal defence guns around Cherburg in 1940, and studied them so well that he had his report ready by 1945. -- greymaus . . ...
