It does.
It even has some script support.

I keep Acrobat Reader 2020, but only for its booklet-printing ability (easier to use than the one inherent to my printer driver), and 5.0 (can't remember why); my daily driver for PDFs is Foxit Reader 5.0. But I don't do any editing. (If I'm in Edge already, and a web page gives me a link to a PDF, I open it in Edge.) You're lucky, getting such complaints. UK government forms are fussy about the format too, but don't _tell_ you what you've done wrong - they just sit there sullenly, not proceeding. (Actually I've mostly come across this on web pages, but I suspect PDF forms would do the same.) For example, if I need to enter a number in the form dddd dddd dddd dddd and try to do that, I get to dddd dddd dddd d - and then it won't go any further; it's only because I've encountered the problem before that I know it doesn't want the spaces, i. e. I have to enter dddddddddddddddd. Which is harder to check against where I'm copying it from - such as a credit card, or my V11 car tax reminder form, _where the number is printed /with/ the spaces_. > > Yes, i have seen those. I didn't test the whole cycle though (save and reopen elsewhere). On a vanilla document, your options are a bit more complicated. And our objective here, is to come up with a recipe that is easy to use. A science experiment is not the objective, as much fun as that would be. PDF have a binary and a text option. However, the text conversion typically only works on a portion of the document. The fonts are stubbornly binary. And they're embedded subset fonts, and do not contribute to a workflow at all (they're a barrier to editing). Most of the newer options in PDF, are just there to break things, as you would expect. You would be very lucky today, to have a (string) with a Tj as in this example. This document is the soul of simplicity, because it was hand generated (by someone). ******************** Yet another hello.pdf ************************** %PDF-1.2 1 0 obj << /Type /Page /Parent 5 0 R /Resources 3 0 R /Contents 2 0 R >> endobj 2 0 obj << /Length 51 <=== A forward declaration of the stream length >> These are part of keeping humans at bay... stream BT /F1 24 Tf 1 0 0 1 260 254 Tm (Hello World)Tj <=== This is how we keep text on a bearing line ET endstream endobj 3 0 obj << /ProcSet[/PDF/Text] /Font <</F1 4 0 R >> >> endobj 4 0 obj << /Type /Font /Subtype /Type1 /Name /F1 /BaseFont/Helvetica <=== Relies on the viewer-prog having Helvetica (in correct format). >> Modern docs have embedded subset fonts (to disable "editing"). endobj 5 0 obj << /Type /Pages /Kids [ 1 0 R ] /Count 1 /MediaBox [ 0 0 612 446 ] >> endobj 6 0 obj << /Type /Catalog /Pages 5 0 R >> endobj trailer << /Root 6 0 R >> ******************** Yet another hello.pdf ************************** Paul

Besides Edge, she has Chrome and Firefox.
I installed FFx because she complained about too many adverts in some
web pages. So FFx + Ublock origin.
I installed Chrome because that's the easiest when using Google for
Groups. She is most familiar with this one.
I don't think she uses Edge except by accident.
She says she is going to install Word, she is finding LO hard to get
used to. However, the only computer provided by her employer for the
teachers in that school has LO, not Word.

All they see is a balance sheet. Yes LO is "free", but what's the cost in time and well being of your the staff who need to use it without any training? Sounds like whoever is sending the pdfs doesn't know that docx isn't just a "word file" and that .odt is perfectly useable with word or many other word processors.

Am I the only one that uses this method to fill out PDF documents? I also use the same method to add citation information to documents.
