I am one of the test subjects for the SamKnows EU project, so there's a little white box that sits between my fiber box and my home router, according to last month's statistics I am getting an average of 45 Mbit/s download and 41 Mbit upload, most probably measured against a server in the UK. Not too shabby! > > actually, there is also commercial DSL and commercial cable modems, > where I guess, besides giving higher bit-rates, they also remove the > download caps. "Download caps???" You can't sell a fixed connection with caps here in Norway. The only network I have with download limits is the regular cell phone/usb dongle which has a 15 GB/month limit. Past this point the speed drops to something in the ISDN range (100 kbit/s ?). Sufficiently many heavy users reach the limit each month that we can see the average use of the network always starts dropping a bit over the last week or so!
