You just need to tell them to use a tool that can do the job; they should not think in terms of any particular programming language. Languages can come and go but programming as a profession remains static. Tools change. C has become Cobol of the 21st century. There are people who are spending hours using it but the fact of the matter is new languages like C#, Python and TypeScript are widely used these days because most of the Apps run on the web or about to run on the web. Desktop Apps are in the wane. Storage is in the cloud or on the network so you need new tools for those type of work. C has NOT changed at all since it was first brought to the attention of users; The new standards have added something but the overall concept hasn't changed. C++ and C# brought something new on the table and so languages like Turbo Pascal and/or Delphi are almost dead as well. They are used by hard core fanatics but like Cobol they are not used for creating real "state of the art" applications.
