This was about the question, whether or not the symbol x could be used for scalar multiplication in a scientific paper. Cross products can only be applied to vectors, but we are uncertain, whether Einstein meant vectors or scalars. Usually velocity is a vector quantity and mass is a scalar. If Einstein used x in connection to both, we readers scratch our heads and try to figuere out, what was actually meant. This is an error, because the author tells the reader, what he wants to say. This would require to distinguish vectors from scalars and other mathematical objects by certain signs. Such sings were already common practise at that time, hence also requirred from Einstein. But contrary to common practice such signs were missing. Instead an inappropriate sign for multiplication was used. I could have chosen the more difficult case of missing sings for vectors, but took the easier case of the cross, which was inappropriate. TH
