That's all technical. GIF is in resurgence, because it's an actual cultural thing now. My kids know what a GIF is (even if they can't believe the correct pronunciation), but they don't know what a JPG, PNG, APNG WebM or anything else is. They know GIF. There's no technical reason to use GIF for animated images anymore, yet that's people are using these days. It's the cultural thing that has to die, technical is already there and has been for years.
