Now that pretty much everything is up + running again...

(though I am receiving a steady trickle of spam, in a way
that has never happened before. Last night Neil did post on
Twitter that "A few tidy-ups still to do such as spam
filtering configuration.")

... perhaps the time is ripe for there to be some discussion
here, preferably (and if possible) with contributions from
ISPs, as how best to handle communication with customers in
the event of something like this happening again?

Personally I would like to see postings to a newsgroup
(ideally) or mailing list where both sides of the
converstion can be seen together, rather than the one sided
conversation got from Twitter.

Another approach could be based on what Paul Vigay at least
hinted at doing, in that he did maintain a mirror of the
Orpheus Internet status page on a completely different
server.

Either way, of course, requires the ISP to make
announcements when things do go badly wrong.
