Iran, as I expected, is testing all sorts of devices in real war 
performance. One of the main issues for Iran has been the necessity of 
using air defense systems that are designed for shooting down objects in 
high altitudes using long range missiles, but using them for low 
altitude close by drones. This is expensive. The solution to this matter 
was out today and tested on the two aforementioned MQ-9s.

The two MQ-9s hunted today served as the first real war test of the new 
air defense system "Dey-9". This was their first test and it showed they 
are quite effective against drones and anything low altitude.

This system is the "mini" version of Khordad-3 systems, and is much 
cheaper and easier to build and use. It has the same radar as Khordad-3 
and is mounted on the same type of vehicle. It senses objects up to 120 
km away from it and the crew do nothing but fire after enemy object is 
detected. Everything else is done automatically. The crew's job is 
mainly to load the 8 missiles and make the system ready for action.

The radar tracks 8 different objects separately and simultaneously. So 
it can hunt up to 8 drones at once.

There are also tests being done on the various features on its missiles 
which are smaller and have differences with the Khordad-3 missiles. Not 
every missile used in Dey-9 have same features at least for now.

The tracking is done by the system in two ways of radar and optical and 
by the missile in optical way only. This might be thought of as 
shortcomings first, but in fact it makes it possible for the missiles to 
be much smaller (more of them available to deploy from same system) and 
faster (mach 4) in maneuvering necessary to hit the targets. But the 
missile is still heavy enough to require about half a minute to reach 
its maximum speed, therefore it is not suitable for hunting bomber jets.

This system was developed from Khordad-3 system which itself was 
developed from Ra'd system, and the latter was developed from reverse 
engineered Russian Buk system in 1980. Buk system is still in use in 
Russia and a number of other countries.

So as far as drones are concerned, Iran has no limitations to shoot them 
down. This covers a huge part of air defense by itself.

Even Khordad-3 was developed to shoot down higher flying drones from 
farther distances. None of these can shoot down bomber jets and 
refueling planes which are always completely out of range for them.

Iran does not have adequate air defense against newest bomber jets. 
Relying on Russian systems in that regard has proven unreliable. The 
only system Iran has developed herself for hunting bomber jets in high 
altitudes and long distances away is the Bavar-373, which is only 
effective against bomber jets of 5th generation and earlier, and not the 
latest ones.

Iran has to work on that weakness in this same war. A lot of funds 
before this war were spent on other projects and not on this one. The 
creation and training of the use of missiles in friendly countries 
(Hezbollah, Yemen) absorbed much of such funds and delayed improvements 
needed for Bavar system. But I bet they're now fast busy doing that 
cause oil income has almost doubled. I'm sure pretty soon effective 
defense against newest bomber jets will get available and used.

Trump's farts last night made Americans aware that this war is going to 
be a long war. Americans are now familiar enough about how Trump conveys 
his decisions.

Further study of remains of the two MQ-9s today showed that one of them 
is actually the Chinese Wing Lung drone that Emarat uses. So Emarat has 
started to actively attack Iran.

Big explosions in Jerusalem.
