I managed to power it up. I connected an external battery pack, a box
with three AAA rechargeable battery, which seems to have the same
voltage. I soldered the cables to the old battery micro-pcb (with a temp
sensor, 3 cables out).

The kobo thing is robust, there was a clack which today I realized was a
short with the kobo battery holder which is metallic, so today I wrapped
that mini pcb in celo tape.

Yesterday it worked initially, then the touch screen stopped responding
to the touch. I recharged the AAA batteries in their external charger,
and tried again today. The thing did not power up. I connected the USB
cable with the battery in "off" position, I saw a led coming up, but
still no response. Then I powered ON the battery pack, and finally it
booted. I followed the procedure to disable the ADE identity, then the
Kobo identity, which was the purpose of the entire job. Success. I took
photos of it all.
