My situation isn't typical. For my uses, a recovery partition is not needed. One isn't really needed. Two would be redundant. Three would be a burden. Four would be ridiculous. And FIVE is just an outright pain in the ass. I have a partition for Lion, Mountain lion, Mavericks (my daily OS), my Clone drive of Mavericks (for a REAL recovery disk, as well as to test things out before committing to them), and the Yosemite beta. I also have a partition for Snow Leopard, Windows XP and Windows 7... but they don't make their own recovery disks. And before you ask, it's a work requirement. We open and translate customer files with the same OS version in which they were created. Kinda dumb, I thought... but I follow the procedure. We open the files, contourize the text, embed the images, preserve the transparencies, convert the CT's to more easily editable tiffs and (sometimes) apply our fingerprint DGC curves based on press configuration and Conventional or UV ink requirements. So, for me, an optional install would be better than having to take the extra steps to delete the partition. I really don't think I would benefit from five recovery disks. -- If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made prolonging the problem.
