Easy for you to say.  :-)

Wouldn't I have to build them from source?  Or are there static binaries
that would work regardless of the configuration of the machine here?

It has been so long I really have no idea what, if any, development tools
are still available on that machine.  I would guess the last application
to see general use was Minitab and that moved to the PC at least a decade
ago.  Many people held out using it just for VMS Mail but they shut that
down at least 10 years ago.

The passing of yet another era.  Sad, really.....
