Some provide licensed codecs for various digital "protections" so that media made available with those licensed "protections" may be accessed by the end users via their computers rather than through licensed devices and players. That is why every year or so I spend money on Mandriva in the PowerPacked version. I know the same codecs are available in many nations without payment but unfortunately I happen to live in the USA. I break enough laws to try to avoid further law-breaking in my spare time. No one has to run Linux but if you cannot afford to run MacOS. If you s I do think that Windows is despicable because of the failure of Microsoft to actually provide a decently secure system over the many years then you can run a Unix or you can as do i with somewhat limited technical knowledge run Linux.
