Western thought doesn't like that sort of vagueness, quite so. But when you get down to the nuts and bolts it most likely IS that way. So, we cope. Some invent certainties to cling to. Whatever we see as 'real' will always have a certain "iffiness' factor to it. Now is this "useful" ? Maybe not, but maybe so sometimes.

The cat 'form' is an internalised model you have of catliness that you compare with your experience of 'cat' to see if they match well enough to be a pragmatic guide to action. E.g. so you don't stroke a warthog by mistake. Or even a mountain lion. No one has any objection to our personal realities being functional or effective, because clearly they are, the argument is over whether they are data, or metadata. The realists say they are as near as dammit the data, the idealists say they are imaginary, and the transcendental idealists say that they are metadata. Or as a very stoned guy once said 'the question is, how much of it is in your mind? Or if indeed it is not *all* in your mind?' The realists attempt to construct a model where nothing is in the mind, not even theories about facts. This has the virtue of simplicity, but its simply too simple. Idealists say it's *all* in the mind. We can pretend what we like and it will be true. E.g. Transgender nonsense. Kant observed that while it made sense for there to be a world - the light outside the cave - we were never able to discern it *directly*, but had to split it up into time, space, matter and objects etc. And those divisions, and ultimately theories *about* those divisions, were therefore *about* a real world, just not *the* real world of the materialists. ] This is so remarkably similar to first of all some of the eastern philosophies and also to modern quantum theory that *some* physicists have posited it as the answer to 'the problem of consciousness' which is actually that the world does NOT exist if no one is looking at it. And one of the reasons they are so against that, is that it inevitably introduces human consciousness as something from an entirely different dimension . I hope we do reach a better more complete understanding of the processes going on presently in the Univese I agree metaphysics has nothing to do with science but is only an expansion of theology which is not subject to observation or disproof. And that is in fact why we never can know everything about the universe: Knowledge depends on metaphysics. And metaphysics is a set of human assumptions. Limited and never demonstrably correct. The study of metaphysics is, by and large, to define the limits of possible knowledge and its dependence on human assumptions. You van pick any rotational axes that you like, Nature defines none as absolute except Machs theorem that says that as far as rotation goes, everything revolves around the center of gravity of the universe, and somehow there is an absolute level of rotation. Or at least relative to the average rotational velocity of the rest of the universe. -- Truth welcomes investigation because truth knows investigation will lead to converts. It is deception that uses all the other techniques.

It WAS pretty good - albeit complicated. Check into it all - was actually kind of DIFFICULT to disprove in a definitive way. Took better instrumentation and math. Otherwise it was just a "theory", a "way of looking at things". The 'reversing' planet orbits WERE a sign that something Too Weird was going on ....... but for awhile they thought planets were like little tiny stars, not huge bodies. Again, not enough data. In TIME we'll probably have to seriously refine our views of 'dark energy' and 'dark matter' - terms that totally stink of the "luminiferous aether". But, for now, no better data/defs/math. Instrumentation/metrics ... every time that capability doubles it seems we have to re-do half our physics. Hey, maybe Linux can be the leverage we need - find and write tomorrow's physics ! Note group ref ! :-)

With technology, you need something useful, even if you don't understand how it works.
