I wonder how much difference it matters vis-a-vis track size these days,
because the track size varies depending on how far out from the spindle
the heads are. In modern (and not all that modern anymore) hard drives,
the drive does read ahead, and so forth, and reads entire tracks no
matter what the computer asks for. If the computer asks for less, the
rest remains in the buffer on the chance that one of the next few reads
will want it.
