Unless it has changed lately,
ibs=BYTES
read BYTES bytes at a time (default: 512)
obs=BYTES
write BYTES bytes at a time (default: 512)
You surely do not wish to use anything less than 4096 these days.
I use io-size = 65536 when driving my backup tape drive that has a
hardware buffer that size. (Actually, the buffer is multiple of that.)
