'Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems' is a set of dialogs 
between a Copernican, an educated layman, and Simplicio, the geocentrist. 
He would have been better off to have named the geocentrist something 
else.

Urban VII had been friendly to Galileo but thought there was some bait and 
switch involved in getting the book approved and recognized his personal 
theories in the mouth of the Simpleton who is portrayed as a wrong headed 
buffoon. Piss off the pope at your own peril.
