  Totally agree, and that's why my own CSS straight up leaves out any,

max-width: 600px; 

  , and my HTML doesn't contain,

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

  . It's not my job to dictate how much paragraph width people want
  or try to patch things up for messed-up clients from a distance.
