Running Xorg 1.21 my laptop with Devuan 5 has less RAM than that used in total with few applications started (~350MB), let alone just by Xorg and the window manager. Xorg RSS=79752 X RSS=3972 xinit RSS=1324 Resolution is 1024x768. Using "radeon" Xorg GPU driver. The window manager (JWM) isn't listed for some reason, maybe it's what's called "x-session-manager" by ps with RSS=30840? TinyX Xvesa has RSS=6452 and jwm has RSS=1412 on the old system I'm posting from, a PC with 80MB RAM total (800x600 screen resolution). > I don't have a pure Linux that uses Wayland, but WSL2 uses Wayland to > display Linux graphical applications on the Windows desktop[1], and the > part that isn't WSL2-specific looks like this: > > PID RSS CMD > 12 91972 /usr/bin/weston --backend=rdp-backend.so [...] Since Linux systems aren't looking generally comparable, comparing with WSL2 is surely meaningless. I don't have Wayland installed anywhere so I can't compare with it, but TinyX does fine if I'm concerned about memory usage (which the Red Hat Xorg developers weren't back when they removed it, long before they moved over to Wayland development) so I'm not very interested. -- __ __ #_ < |\| |< _#
