I heard that recently too, I think because I mentioned the 30 but I can't
remember. But on checking, I see there is talk of a rumor, but that
there's no truth. That would have been great back then, add a jumper or
something and get a "Programmer" for 30.00 or whatever I paid for the
TI30.

TI had a single board computer using their 990 microprocessor (the one
used in the TI99/4). And they used a TI calculator case to house the
keyboard and readout for the board, a nice method of doing.

I remember decades ago the damage batteries would do to flashlights.

But I got a Grundig shortwave portable for $2.50 at a Rotary Club "Garage
Sale" some years back, and the batteries had leaked (though I can't
remember if the batteries were still in there). But it turned out they
just did cosmetic damage, eating away at some shielding but not at the
circuit boards or parts. I guess it depends on how it was kept, the
batteries were at the bottom so if it was standing up, most of the leakage
would have left the radio through the battery cover.

I also ended up with a Casio musical keyboard that showed signs of battery
leakage when I got it home, and I expected the worst, but while the
plastic shows signs of it, I saw no trace of the leaking on the
circuitry.

I got a TI58 for five dollars in the nineties, and it came with the
printer. That calculator was the one like the 59, except it didn't inclue
a cardreader.
