Yes and no. There's definitely *less* pressure to make a specific
release window and a project won't necessarily die just because there's
no money in it - but large-scale open-source projects do compete for
"mindshare" among open-source developers, who are a large but finite
group with a finite amount of time and energy to sink into them.
