While analogies have, as you correctly note, an inherent problem
the key statement - to aim towards standardization; and especially
if computer scientists and experienced IT folks are involved! - is
valid and should be emphasized and supported (instead of fostering
pointless excuses, mollifying ourselves given the bad quality and
lousy design of quite some of the software we suffer from today).
