I have also been burned by a couple of Apache projects.

But while we often complain that the JCP process is too slow and that
they are too conservative, then avoiding too many breaking changes
is one big benefit of what they do.

I completely agree.

ORM's is a productivity tool but developer should still
have a good database and SQL understanding.

One thing that makes me dislike an ORM is if it comes
with a foobarQL where you can not get to see the real
SQL send to the database.
