I do know that NetBeans and Eclipse are two very fine free IDEs. IntelliJ is highly recommended by many Java developers. Eclipse and customized versions thereof tend to be standard in the workplace. Personally I like NetBeans, for some of the things that have other people prefer Eclipse, I suppose.
