We are all monkeys.  It shows far too often, that's correct.

Still, when comparing Wikipedia to other encyclopedias, it shows that 
paid authors and editors produce about the same level of crap.

Lanier mentioned the L in LAMP, so the other three qualify exactly the 
same.  Facebook is the most popular application on top of that 
framework, and yes, it's closed source.  The second-most popular 
application on top of that framework is the other one Lanier mentioned: 
Wikipedia.
