At the moment, I'm working on my net2o project, and to measure time, I use utime (and am now changing it to ntime). I'm not exactly copying Dan Bernstein's Chicago flow control algorithm, but the way he does it would limit the rate to 1GB/s in 1k packets with microsecond resolution. This is a rate already achievable *today* with not too expensive equipment, so there needs to be something better to be future-proof. Three orders of magnitude is good for about 20 years, no longer. At least there seems to be a clock wall, getting the frequency up further beyond the 3-5GHz we had since the Pentium 4 seems to be difficult. -- Bernd Paysan "If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself" http://bernd-paysan.de/
