I'm all for 64 bits (double number, i.e. 128 bits on a 64 bit system), 
but then microseconds, please.  All timing informations should be 
treated as cyclic numbers, i.e. you calculate deltas with -, and before 
or after depends on the sign; you don't compare with < or u<, you 
compare with - 0<.  I'm more worried that the 292471 years are too much 
to find all the bugs where the time is actually compared with < or u<, 
which it shouldn't ;-).
