I have been enjoying using Tiny Core Linux lately:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/welcome.html

It's very different from all other distros I've found. It runs
entirely from RAM, mounting a new loopback device for each package
you have installed. Each time you boot it effectively reinstalls, but
it will store state on disk when you tell it to.

I have it on a couple of old Wyse Winterms I was given. The 400MHz,
256Mb RAM one boots in well under 30 seconds.

There is a package database and manager -- minimalist, since each
package is a single file.

Whether it's Forth-ish is in the eye of the beholder, but it is a
fresh approach.

Have fun,

Robert.
