That turned out to be easy enough to handle: I didn't use COMMAND$. :) The program just has prompts. The net amount of keying would be about the same, whether the user typed on the command line or in response to prompts, and in fact using prompts avoided having to parse a command string. However, with respect to running it under Win>=98, you have to use 8.3 paths and filenames, of course. -- Paul Bartlett
