Bugger. I did ask the ones I talked to but none of them knew when
we would be using it. I did originally say 'hopefully by Xmas' to one
of them and he did say 'hopefully' but appeared to just be guessing
because he only knew what they were doing, not the overall stuff.

They all appear to be contractors here.

All plain white vans with just the one with Avis markings.
Presumably they got the lot in such a rush Avis didn’t have
time to get them painted etc.

> the original mob that laid the fibre

We've never seen that happening here, presumably because it
isnt necessary here. Initially they did a bit of quite local digging
and put lots of those green boxes within usually at most 50'
of a pillar, mostly quite a bit closer than that. That was all done
pretty quickly, in about a week or so all over town. Must be at least
30 of the boxes now.

Then they spent weeks with usually 2-3 blokes at each of those
green boxes fiddling around with the wiring at one end of them.
I was talking to one of them doing that and said 'presumably
the rest of it is up the other end' and he just said yes.

> and dug the pits had some sort of NBN branding on their vehicles

Ours didn’t. And those bigger trucks have been long gone now.

Interesting. None of ours have. Not one.

They certainly arent doing that here. When they put in those
green metal boxes, there are at least 3 big plastic pipes about
4" diam from the bottom of the green metal box to the pit that
has a couple of concrete covers, in the direction of the pillar.

The pits arent big enough to climb into like the older
pits which have much bigger metal covers, 4'x6' ish.

I assume that at some stage the cable that currently goes
from the pillar to the exchange is removed and there is
a cable from the pillar to the green metal box instead
but it isnt obvious how that is done mechanically.

The one they spend the most time fiddling around
in the wiring end of the green metal box is just a few
tens of feet away from what I know is the RIM that
provides the services to that big section of town.

I know my cable currently goes to the town exchange directly.
