Even more pig ignorant than you usually manage.

It can only affect large files because only those can be significantly
fragmented. And only affects large files that are serially accessed
rather than randomly accessed like with large database files etc.

BUT the absolute vast bulk of serially accessed large files are
in fact media files where the speed of movement thru the file
is determined by the media play time, so extra seeks while
playing or recording the file are completely irrelevant.

There are a few exceptions like say with transcoding media
files, but the speed at which that happens is determined by
the speed at which the transcoding can be done and isn't
at anything like the speed the hard drive can read or write
the file, so again, extra seeks are completely irrelevant.

The only time that fragmentation actually makes a measurable
difference is with copying large files and backups and that
shouldn’t be done with the user waiting for it to happen,
so again, the extra seeks should be irrelevant to the user
even tho they can certainly be measured.
