As systemd tend to do changes to the system, I think the /etc/passwd and 
/etc/shadow more or less will be "deprecated", which will make systemd 
less compatible with non-systemd Linux.

Do one thing and do that well, systemd do break that rule quite a lot.
The component changeability has been abandoned with systemd, you can't 
just replace the systemd with another init system and keep homed, you 
will need to use both or none of them.
