The answer is yes, at least to some extent: $ echo "scale=5;181/71" | bc 2.54929 So you could setup an entire bc 'program' and then just pipe the whole thing into bc for evaluation.

It came out late enough that people were expecting BASIC to be built in. I wonder if it had come earlier, if it would have done better. But it's also complicated, since the system was about on par with the Sinclair ZX80 or 81, a fairly limited system. Michael

It seems to work well as far as I've seen. I never used Forth, but I used to read about it in Byte and it seemed to be pretty neat. It's a shame it didn't get more widely used. It would seem to be pretty portable. As I understand it only a small low-level kernel would have to be rewritten for each new machine. Orders of magnitude less effort than writing a new code generator for GCC. -- Pete
