I have no idea where I can see which server folders I'm subscribed to, 
since I haven't been able to find any place in SM Settings where that's 
shown.  The closest I could find is in the IMAP server' account's 
"Synchronization & Storage", where the first item is "Message 
Synchronizing", but that's for "choosing mail folders and newsgroups for 
off line use", which is not the case, here.  This does show several 
folder in the IMAP server, but they're clearly not all the ones I can 
see on their webmail site.

There's also the "Advanced Account Settings" button in the Server 
Settings, where the first option is to "Show only subscribed folders" 
(or not), and ticking it does hide some folders, but NOT the "Trash" 
one, which is what I was using,

That's not he situation, here:  I had been using this IMAP server for 
many years, and the "Server Setting" quoted at the beginning of this 
message was in use, and working.  Many years ago, I had added some 
scripts to the server's site, which I barely understood, and have no 
records about them; also, some years back I had changed a local mail 
service for Gmail, and tried to substitute it for another earlier one, 
including in forwarding messages to the IMAP server.  Several months 
back, I made a general 'reform' of my computer systems, and had to 
change may things in many programs, and one thing I noticed was that the 
gmails were no longer being forwarded, so I contacted the server, and 
they said that was because some of the existing scripts weren't working 
(due to no-longer-existing folder names), so they suggested clearing 
those scripts, which should correct the problem -- and it did, for gmail.

Some time later, I noticed that a previous behavior (any message I 
downloaded from the server to Local Folders should be moved/copied also 
to the server's "Trash" folder, which had been working for years) no 
longer worked, and contacted them.

Their response was (somewhat resumed):

So I did that, and 'found' the setting I copied above (which I could be 
sure was the one I had, because I do have some records of these settings.

Currently this setting does seem to have a problem, as I said in the 
first message in this thread:

So, since I enter the "Move message to folder 'Trash' on [Account]", and 
next time SM is launched it's gone, with "Choose folder" once more in 
the field, and there WAS a period during that 'time of troubles' in my 
system where some things may have been 'damaged' (but not 'broken'...), 
I guess the problem really is in some damaged SM parameters -- but, 
since don't have any knowledge about the cryptic settings in SM 
"ImapMail", all the other functions of mail/News work fine, and I prefer 
not to try and create alternate profiles/users, I guess I'll just learn 
to live with the system as it is...
