Make sure that the server's Trash is still subscribed in the IMAP server
settings.

I would be very sceptical of an email provider blaming SM but you could
always try to reproduce the problem in TB or some other IMAP client. Or
ask what change they made that caused your SM to behave differently,
since the problem is new behaviour.
