Hi badgolferman,

Being purposefully helpful (which is what Apple trolls can never be),
I don't doubt that the ads, especially videos, take up huge space.

As you know, I generally don't use apps which have advertisements (as I
spend my energy finding better apps that do the same things, without them).

However... the cartoonify apps (which are great) have these obnoxious
full-page 30-second loud video popups - which at first shocked me that
anyone would put up with such crap - until I found how to block them.

Now I use the cartoonify apps all the time, and I don't see any ads. 

I'm not sure which one step did most of the blocking, but it might simply
be that I started using privatedns settings which I think iOS has also.

Looking at my Android, the privatedns server is adblock.dns.mullvad.net
but each platform (unfortunately) sets up system-wide blocks differently.

Android uses the domain name while Windows uses the IP address.
Sometimes you have to use the URL. 
It's a mess to have three ways, I agree. But it is what it is.

I have no need for ad blocking on iOS because I've never seen an ad in iOS
in my life, but again, that's because my apps on iOS don't bring up ads.

If I were to be able to copy a photo easily to iOS and, at the same time,
if iOS were to allow screenshotting of the protected views, I might do so. 

Looking up how to set a system-wide privatedns on iOS, apparently iOS 16
introduced a system-wide setting for DNS over HTTPS (DoH).
 iOS16+:Settings > VPN & DNS > DNS Servers > DNS over HTTPS 
 Enter any desired free adblocking private dns server URL, e.g., 
 https://adblock.dns.mullvad.net/dns-query
 Tap "Save" in the top right corner.
 Your iOS device should now be using Mullvad's ad-blocking 
 DNS server for all network connections (both Wi-Fi & cellular). 

Doing this simple step enhances privacy by preventing even your ISP from
tracking you, and it prevents 3rd-party tracking also. But for you what it
will do most is block all known ad sites that it knows about.

This is good for you in every way, e.g., your system should be faster, it
should have less garbage in your cache, you won't see ads that it blocks in
any app, including in your web browsers, etc.

If there's a downside, let me know as it seems to be a no-brainer to me.
