I use both uBO and a hosts blocklist (not too large).

Not only the Browser tracks/phones home, links to malware/phishing.

e.g.: *.telemetry.microsoft.com
and malware sites. Not CDNs, Akaimai, subdomains etc.

About your UTF8 domains claim:

before calling gethostbyaddr(...) the apps must
convert the UTF8 domain into punicode and
that's what's in the hosts file.

The app does not access the hosts file.
