What matters is what his work contract says.  That's why they were able 
to discipline him prior to him quitting.

There's always disagreements; the NYT lost McNeil a few years ago over a 
stupidly trumped up bias claim from an entitled college kid who asked 
for the unvarnished truth because they then got the unvarnished truth.

No change.  He violated his contract terms.  I've similarly worked jobs 
where any outside employment were subject to employer scrutiny/approval.

Except that if it really was that bad, Berliner could have indemnified 
himself if other malcontents quit at the same time too.  That didn't 
happen, which undermines his claimed complaint: he was the outlier.
