I may have misunderstood, but I think what he's saying is that
someone seems to have figured out how to hijack the call if
he doesn't dial 1. Canada may be different. In the US we have
to dial a 1, presumably a country code, at the start of a US
call.
The surprising bit to me was that anyone might call the
Social Security Admin. Trump/Musk/Doge have been trying to
cripple it, firing people. And this week I read that Musk is
sending in his script kiddies to rewrite the existing COBOL
code base. It's very worrisome. Up until now, SS has been
a remarkably well run operation, and a lot of poor people
depend on getting their payment deposited without delay.
