You didn't mention how big the file is. :)

   I've had Volume Shadow Copy disabled for as long as I
can remember. Disk image backup is much better than
system restore. But that doesn't explain the lag, unless
the file was gigantic. If you have SSDs and it takes a long
time to move files then something is wrong. (And it's not
something that will be solved by going back to command line
days with Robocopy. Explorer should handle it just fine.)

   I think Paul suggested the obvious first step: After getting
rid of PowerDesk, if it still doesn't work then figure out
what the heck is running that's holding things up. Maybe
3 antivirus programs? Maybe there's a hardware problem?
Something is wrong.
